Bearstone Review

A young Ute boy has been taken away from his home to work on an old man’s ranch. He wants to stay with his grandmother but he has no choice. When he gets to the ranch, he bolted into the woods and climbs up the nearby mountain. While he is climbing, he discovers something inside the mountain that changes his feelings about the job. What does he discover inside that mountain cave? “Bearstone” is a story by Will Hobbs that explains how the main character Cloyd finds a symbol of his ancestors and how he leans that this summer won’t be so bad. If you don’t think you’ll like something, you might want to give it a chance, it could end up being something you like.

Because of the fact that the he thinks he won’t like it makes a conflict which points out the mode of comedy. Like all comedies; the story starts out with normalcy. This is because he lives with his family. Then, like the plotline, the conflict arises in the story and that is that he has to go work on a ranch for the summer ¬away from his friends and family. Then he fully realizes the conflict because he doesn’t want to stay so he darted into the mountains as fast as a cheetah and as swiftly as a gazelle. The fourth point on the plotline is that the resolution occurs. The resolution occurs when he finds a cave and inside he finds a stone that is in the shape of a bear. This stone give the holder luck and strength. He takes the stone and he goes back to the old man’s house. Finally the story returns to normalcy because he realizes that his summer job can’t be avoided and that he might like the job.

In this comedic story; the characters are amazing. Cloyd is the main character in this story. He is a young Ute Native American. He is also adventurous and careful and he likes to see the world. He gets taken away to work on a ranch. Walter Landis plays a role in this story too. He is the ranch owner. He has to look over Cloyd while he helps with the ranch, but Cloyd runs off. He had spent weeks finding food and learning how to prepare them. When Cloyd come back he is grateful he didn’t get badly injured.

Although these characters help with the plot line; the symbols are important too. One symbol is the Bearstone. It represents luck and strength. It also represents the ways of the Ute Native Americans. Another symbol is the cave. It represents that things are hard to get and how you need to try hard on everything you do. Also the ranch is a symbol. It represents work and how things aren’t always easily achieved.

The symbols help tie together the story together with everything else. Just because you don’t think you’ll like something just remember that it could end up being something you really like. Cloyd never wanted this job, but when he decided to give Walter a chance; he realized that he actually could like the job at the ranch. If you were Cloyd what would you have done?

Winter Wonderland

Glistening flakes float from above
Falling down like peaceful doves
Outside the children run and play
On this marvelous winter day

From the mountains to the seas
And from all the cities near and far
Winter is remarkable, there is no doubt
Nothing here is too bizarre

While also with the fun and games
Come joyful songs we all can sing
They fill our ears with the beautiful sound
And that little ring

But atlas the empire falls
From behind cowering walls
The majestic fluff melts away
Until it comes on a future day
